Signed “Gallé.”
Shows signs of wear and has been restored.
Measurements: 75 x 57 x 33.5 cm.
Art Nouveau-style side table, with a structure defined by the sinuous and fluid forms typical of this style. The tops are inlaid with stylized, highly naturalistic floral bouquets combining fruit woods, following the classical technique. The legs are turned, with fine moldings, and feature an open, carved base.
The master designer Émile Gallé took over his father’s factory in 1874 and quickly achieved great international success, winning awards at international exhibitions and selling works to major collections and museums. Today, pieces created by Émile Gallé can be seen at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Brohan Museum in Berlin, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, among many others.
