DESCRIPTION
Console crescent; Netherlands, c. 1800.
Oak wood, mahogany veneer and brass fillets.
It presents partial losses in the star of the board.
Measurements: 78 x 78 x 40 cm.
This crescent console, made in the Netherlands around 1800, belongs to the formal language of late neoclassicism, characterized by the recovery of principles of symmetry, proportion and ornamental purification. Built in oak wood, with mahogany veneer and brass fillets, the piece shows a careful combination of structural solidity and refinement, in accordance with the aesthetic ideals of the turn of the century.
This console fits into the context of domestic and representative interiors of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, at a time of transition between the enlightened taste and the first nineteenth-century sensibilities.
