DESCRIPTION
Carlos IV Niche, ca. 1790.
Carved, gilded, and polychrome wood.

Measurements: 135 x 88 x 53 cm.
A Charles IV-style niche made in the late 18th century, designed in a style that bridges the gap between the late Baroque and Neoclassicism. It features an octagonal architectural structure, with a central section of curved profile enclosed by a glazed door with a segmental arch, flanked by smooth columns with Corinthian capitals that support an entablature of refined lines. The top is embellished with a mixtilinear pediment crowned by a medallion depicting the Sacred Heart, accompanied by vases and ornamental elements with subtle Rococo influences. The polychrome finish in cream tones with gold accents and the interior lined with decorative paper help to enhance the devotional character of the piece, intended to house a religious image in a domestic setting or private chapel.
