This canvas, representative of the Spanish school of the XX century, shows a wooded landscape in seasonal transition, probably towards the autumn. The composition is dominated by a group of naked and slender trees, whose branches, almost filigree, are trimmed against a sky tinged in ocher and pink tones, suggesting the moment of twilight. The artist uses a loose and varied brushstroke, in which the vertical strokes of the trunks contrast with the chromatic vibration of the backgrounds: muted greens, faded violets and earthy ochers. This technique reinforces the atmosphere of melancholic stillness that pervades the scene.
The light treatment, rooted in impressionism, does not seek the exact reproduction of nature, but the evocation of a sensory experience. The light, filtered through the trees, generates a chromatic gradation that envelops the viewer in an introspective atmosphere. In this sense, the work is part of a pictorial line that, during the twentieth century in Spain, combined the naturalist tradition with the search for expressive modernity, giving the landscape not only a descriptive character, but also a poetic and emotional dimension.
