French table clock framed in the period of the monarchic Restoration and realized in gilded bronze to the mercury. Popularly known as "La Bibliothèque", its composition is articulated around two children's figures represented in reading attitude, sitting next to a set of books that explicitly alludes to the field of study and education; children embody, therefore, an allegory of intellectual training and the transmission of knowledge from childhood. The mercury gilding, characteristic of high quality French production in the first third of the 19th century, maintains its luminosity and highlights the fineness of the bronze.
