The LOVE series is one of the most emblematic creations of the American artist Robert Indiana. Its origin dates back to 1964, when the Museum of Modern Art in New York commissioned a Christmas card in which the famous design with the stacked letters L-O-V-E appeared for the first time. From this motif, Indiana developed in 1970 the first monumental sculpture of LOVE, now in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, a work that achieved immediate international recognition and gave rise to numerous editions installed in cities around the world.
Robert Indiana was a painter, sculptor, designer and set designer, and one of the figures associated with American pop art. His work is characterized by the use of words, numbers and symbols of everyday culture, represented with intense colors and compositions of great visual impact that often incorporate a critical reading of American society. Throughout his career he has exhibited at major institutions and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, among others. His works are in the collections of numerous international museums.
