Maria Assumpció Raventós transforms the fabric into an intimate, tactile, and almost dreamlike landscape. The work is constructed using a range of ecru, beige, ivory, brown, and ochre tones, evoking a suspended, luminous, and serene atmosphere, as if the memory of a summer night were fixed within the fabric. The large, fluffy masses at the bottom edge introduce an organic presence, reminiscent of plant formations, clouds, or flowers, while the hanging threads add movement and a delicate sense of fragility. The artist is part of the renewal of Catalan tapestry in the second half of the 20th century, linked to the Catalan School of Sant Cugat and the circle of Josep Grau-Garriga and Susanna Rolando.
Maria Assumpció Raventós trained at the Escola Superior de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona. She furthered her studies in printmaking in Paris and at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and has built an outstanding career in the field of textile art, with exhibitions around the world. Her work is represented in institutions such as the MACBA in Barcelona and the MACVAC in Vilafamés, among others. She was awarded the City of Barcelona Prize for Printmaking, the Gold Medal from the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Prize at the Bratislava International Textile Biennial, and the Creu de Sant Jordi.
