Box crafted from 915 sterling silver with enamel inlays, representative of Spanish goldsmithing from the second half of the 20th century. Its design draws on the ornamental language of French Baroque, featuring a profuse decoration of plant scrolls, acanthus leaves, and finely chiseled floral motifs that cover the surface. The lid features an oval plaque of polychrome enamel depicting a mythologically inspired scene, evoking 18th-century Rococo painting, while the curvilinear legs enhance the composition’s dynamism. The piece reflects the historicist aesthetic characteristic of Fernando Vera’s work, which reinterprets European luxury designs through meticulous craftsmanship and remarkable technical virtuosity in the working of silver and enamel.
During the middle decades of the 20th century, Spanish silversmithing experienced a renewed interest in the reinterpretation of historical styles—particularly the French Baroque and Rococo—adapted to contemporary tastes. In this context, workshops and silversmiths such as Fernando Vera produced decorative and sumptuous objects inspired by 18th- and 19th-century models, intended for a clientele that valued artisanal excellence and traditional luxury. The use of high-purity silver, combined with hand-painted enamels and richly chiseled ornamentation, resulted in pieces that, beyond their utilitarian function, were conceived as collector’s items.
