French portico clock, with an architectural structure featuring four Solomonic columns and an upper section with a wavy profile. The case, made of riverwood, features marquetry decoration and gilded metal inlays, with plant motifs and polychrome panels that enliven the dark surface of the piece.
The enameled porcelain dial, with Roman numerals, is framed by a gilded moldings with abundant plant motifs and a rocaille style. The pendulum, also gilded, reinforces the piece’s ornamental character, while the twisted columns lend it a marked vertical dynamism.
This is a table clock of clearly historicist inspiration, reminiscent of the late Napoleon III style and the French decorative reinterpretations of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
