Two sculptural fragments from a temple in Burma, from the Mandalay period. They represent four dancers wearing traditional costumes. They adopt complex postures, placed one on top of the other, in pairs. Historically, Burmese art was based on Buddhist and Hindu myths. There are several regional styles of Buddha images, each with certain distinctive characteristics. The temple architecture is generally made of brick, and the pagodas are covered with gold leaf. These sculptures are also made of wood covered with gold leaf.
