Esteban Sanz discovered his passion for painting in his father's tailor shop and later trained under the guidance of Santiago Moreno Díaz. He studied literature, philosophy and art history at the University of Murcia and later taught art history. He later moved to Madrid, although his first solo exhibition was in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Subsequently, he wrote and directed several Argentine television series and a film in Colombia. He returned to Spain in the early 1960s, where he initially lived in an artists' colony in the west of Mallorca, but later moved to Ibiza.
