DESCRIPTION

SILVIO COPPOLA (Brindisi 1920 - Milan 1985)
Set of eight chairs, ca. 1970.
In solid mahogany.
Seats and backs in leatherette.
Original condition.
Measurements: 49 x 49 x 81 cm. Seat 49 cm.

Set of eight chairs designed by Silvio Coppola. The legs and the upper uprights of the openwork backrest have a tubular profile with a handcrafted appearance due to its organicist finish that denotes a remarkable quality in the materials and workmanship.

A graduate in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Coppola designed buildings in Baghdad, university campuses in Zaire, houses and hotels in Italy. In 1965 he became a project architect for the European Development Fund. He worked as a consultant for many important companies, including Bayer, Bernini, Montecatini, Monteschell, Zucchi, Cinzano, Alessi, Cassina, Parmalat and Feltrinelli. In 1967 he co-founded a research group called Exhibition Design with Bruno Munari and Franco Grignani. Member of ADI (Industrial Design Association), AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and AGI (Graphic Arts Institute), where he was vice-president for two years. He was a professor at the Gesamthochschule in Essen and at the University of Wuppertal.
