Ramón Joaquín Domínguez Herbella was a Spanish writer, lexicographer and grammarian, son of the physician Manuel María Domínguez, one of his eighteen children. Relatively little is known of his short life. At first he considered a career as a clergyman, an idea he eventually abandoned. His fluency in French suggests that he spent some time in France. He lived for a time in Madrid, where he worked as a French teacher. He participated actively in the cultural life of the capital. He owned his own printing press. He left books on French grammar and spelling. However, he is perhaps best remembered for his innovative dictionaries. He was the first to use the term Spanish in the title of a dictionary study.
