Painter, draughtsman and pedagogue, Francesc d'Assís Galí began his career within a modernist language that shows the influence of Casas and Rusiñol, to soon evolve towards a style closer to symbolism thanks to the influence of Alexandre de Riquer, with whom he studied engraving. A member of the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, he was soon attracted to artistic pedagogy; at the age of twenty-six he founded his own art school, where he taught humanistic art. He promoted the creation of the Escuela Superior de Bells Oficis, and was director general of Fine Arts of the Spanish Republic. He worked as an easel painter, poster painter, fresco muralist and draughtsman. Most of his work is collected in the foundation that bears his name, in Palamós.
