Spanish school of the XVIII century.

Carved and polychrome wood.
It does not keep the Baby Jesus or the metal border.
It presents faults in the polychromy and marks of old xylophages.
Measurements: 50 x 22 x 14 cm.

The work that we present here, precisely for the dates in which it is inscribed, denotes a certain decorativism typical of the time, especially appreciable in the gesture of the protagonist. Called "the apostle of the Indies", St. Francis Xavier was a religious and missionary from Navarre of the Society of Jesus, who lived in the 16th century and was canonized in 1622. He became a role model as a missionary in pagan lands (he worked in China, India and Japan), which has given rise to a very abundant work that deals with his figure.
