This portrait represents an older man with a completely shaved skull. It follows models of the Classical Antiquity in which, in general, the ugly and unpleasant in the features of a face used to be softened and idealized. However, here they even seem to be emphasized through the representation of naturalistic details. The bust is elevated on a high pedestal that combines different marbles.
