We are in front of a devotional canvas in which is represented the episode in which San Francisco, being retired in the mountain, had a vision in which Christ appeared to him, of whose wounds rays arose that caused to the saint stigmata in the hands and feet. The scene is placed in the foreground, with the saint seated, dressed in the Franciscan sackcloth, with the Holy Scriptures in front of him, and a crucifix, a book and a skull on a rock, objects of his meditation. The author has not represented the apparition of Christ, but replaces it with a small rupture of Glory from which - it is intuited - the rays that cause the stigmata to the saint depart.
