The present scene of the Adoration of the Magi places the main characters in an architectural frame, which is pointed by a high column, an illuminated window and a high brick wall. The sober character of the space contrasts with the richness of brocade and trimmings on the Magi's robes, as well as the silver and gold chests that they carry and deliver to the Child Jesus. The Virgin Mary occupies the center of the composition, and sits the child on her lap. It was usual, since Renaissance times, to represent the stable as a ruinous building covered with moss. This painting of the nineteenth century takes up that tradition.
