Pair of mystical portraits of Elizabethan period. They probably represent St. John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene.
The young woman raises her gaze to heaven, engaging in a silent dialogue with God. Her pupils glow with rapture and her smooth flesh illuminates a face with soft, idealized features. The gray-bearded saint, on the other hand, has been resolved with naturalistic eagerness, resuming the deep expressiveness of tenebrist heritage.
