In this painting the author addresses a traditional theme in European painting, the still life, and does so with a traditional composition, on an orderly table. However, the formal treatment is now totally modern, with a looser brushstroke and a greater attention to colors, lights and shadows than to the detailed description of qualities and textures. However, there is still the atmospheric care of the scene, and the conception of it as something close and almost tangible, through the placement of objects in the foreground, in an almost illusionistic way.
