Spanish school, ca. 1930's. After DIEGO VELÁZQUEZ (Seville, 1599-Madrid, 1660). "Prince Baltasar Carlos". Oil on canvas. Signed "Rosa Arralaguet". Measurements: 45 x 36 cm; 62 x 53,5 cm (frame).

The author of this painting reproduces with sought-after fidelity the portrait of Prince Baltasar Carlos as a hunter, as it was painted by Velázquez in 1635 (preserved in the Prado Museum). The painter reframed the figure, focusing on the face and a brief hint of landscape.
King Philip IV commissioned Velázquez to paint a series of paintings on the theme of hunting, all of them destined to decorate the pavilion that had been built for this activity in the Pardo mountain, near Madrid, called "La Torre de la Parada". Velázquez painted for this place two other paintings with the theme of hunting: "The Cardinal Infante Don Fernando of Austria hunter" and "Felipe IV hunter".
