José Fuentes studied Fine Arts in the Faculties of Valencia and Barcelona. Later he moved to Bilbao where he began his activity as a plastic artist and as a teacher. Since 1975, Fuentes has developed three parallel activities within the artistic field: as a visual artist, as a researcher in the field of graphic art and as a teacher in art education, his artistic activity is reflected in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Most of his individual exhibitions have been held in museums and cultural centers. Among the individual exhibitions include those held at the Museo San Pio V (Valencia), Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, Palacio de los Serrano (Avila) or the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Salamanca DA2. In international group exhibitions, he has represented Spanish graphics on numerous occasions, and his research activity has been developed in the field of multiple imaging, contributing numerous processes, two of which he has patented. Among the most widespread processes are the Cerograbado, the Oleograbado, the Alcograbado, the Grabado en Barro, the Arenografía and the diverse processes of image created with paper pulp through molds. His most recent research has focused on digital imaging. His teaching activity has been developed at the University of the Basque Country and at the University of Salamanca, where he is currently Professor of Drawing and Engraving. In this field, in university teaching he has introduced numerous unpublished programs with contents extracted from his research and adapted to the teaching context. In this same field he has conducted numerous extra-university courses taught in the most prestigious national institutions such as the Miró Foundation, the National Chalcography, the Goya Foundation in Fuendetodos or the Caja de Avila Foundation. Finally, Fuentes has directed three international artistic research projects. These have involved artists from different international artistic contexts and have been shown in places such as Colombia, Mexico or Italy and in Spain in institutions in different cities such as Valencia, Alicante, Albacete, Madrid or Salamanca.
