As part of its ongoing support for art and culture worldwide, Montblanc has recognized the exceptional contributions of today's patrons of the arts since 1992 with the Montblanc Culture Award. Coinciding with the Award, a unique limited edition writing instrument inspired by a historical patron is commissioned each year to honor contemporaries.
The "Sir Henry Tate" model of the Maecenas Edition, limited to 4,810 Fountain Pens, is characterized by its clean lines and tectonic shape, inspired by the neoclassical architecture of Tate Britain, the museum that Sir Henry Tate funded. The geometric lines of the platinum-plated body and the decoration of the cap rings reflect the characteristic elements of the building's style. The cap and barrel of the writing instrument are inlaid with red lacquer, which contrasts harmoniously with the ivory Montblanc star crowning the cap.
The platinum-plated 18-karat gold nib, which can be retracted by turning it, is delicately engraved with two sugar canes, a tribute to the raw material of Sir Henry Tate's activity. The most important patron of British art was the sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate. The entrepreneur, born in Lancashire in 1819, used his business talents and pioneering spirit to turn a small business into a sugar empire.
