Alexandre Arrechea studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, where he graduated in 1994. Arrechea became known thanks to the artistic collective Los Carpinteros, composed of Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés and Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez. The three artists began working under their collective name in 1994. Arrechea decided to leave Los Carpinteros in 2003 to begin a solo career. Their first solo project was El Jardín de la Desconfianza, an epic installation in Los Angeles that required two years of work (2003-2005). His public art often involves concepts of power, its network of hierarchies, surveillance, control, prohibitions and subjugation, with the viewer's participation being essential to the work. He currently resides in Madrid, although his career has an international projection having exhibited individually at the Museum of the University of America at the Katzen (Washington D. C), at the Casado Santa Pau Gallery (Madrid), at Alonso Art (Miami) and at the San Diego Museum of Art (USA), among others. The Museum of Modern Art in New York acquired several of his drawings for the museum's permanent collection, he has also been awarded on several occasions highlighting the first prize for the Promotion of the Arts awarded by Unesco in 2000.
