Fray Josep Manuel Minyana y Estela, was a Trinitarian friar, Latinist, historian and painter from Valencia, author of several works in Latin. He was a member of the circle of Valencian novatores and an outstanding disciple of Manuel Martí. From the beginning, he manifested a restless spirit open to all cultural currents. For this reason, and with the permission of his superiors, he traveled to Naples, where he lived for seven years. During his stay in Italy he deepened his study of the Latin language (among other humanistic disciplines) and even learned to paint. It was also in Naples where he came into contact with the circles of Gravina and the Valencian Manuel Martí, his teacher. Once he returned to Spain, he devoted himself to teaching Latin, first in Llíria and then in Sagunto, until in 1704 he obtained the chair of Rhetoric at the University of Valencia.
