Antonio de Capmany y Montpalau was a Spanish polygrapher and military man. Campany was born in Barcelona and studied logic and humanities at the College of Bishops of Barcelona, run by the Jesuits. He entered the army and participated in the Spanish campaign of 1762 in Portugal. He retired from the army in 1770, and was later elected secretary of the Royal Academy of History in Madrid. He was elected deputy for the Principality of Catalonia in the Cortes of Cadiz, one of the 51 deputies from Catalonia in that Constituent Assembly.
