DESCRIPTION

FRANCISCO VIDAL Y VIDAL (Palma, 1867-1879).
"Portrait of a Girl", 1919.
Graphite and watercolor on paper.
Signed and dated in the upper left corner.
Measurements: 15 x 10.5 cm; 29 x 22 cm (frame).
Francisco Vidal was captain of the merchant navy, besides having training as a painter. Due to the union of his two passions, he specialized in naval and marine painting. He painted the steamship "María", the paileboats "Antonieta" and "San Miguel" (1877), the polacras "Joven Beatriz" and "Josefa" (1879) and other sailing ships. Today his works can be seen at the headquarters of the Transmediterránea Company in Palma and in the Bartolomé March Servera collection in Madrid (MA).
