ARNE VODDER (Denmark, 1926-2009) for SIBAST.
A set at six solid rosewood chairs, seats with black leather, curved back with bars, model 422.
Minor traces of wear.
Measurements: 98 x 46 x 52 cm.

Arne Vodder was born in Denmark in 1926. He was trained as a cabinetmaker and architect and he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, from where he graduating in 1947. He was trained by the influential architect and designer Finn Juhl, who also became a close friend and businesspartner. Vodder launched his own architecture and design studio with architect Anton Borg in 1950. Together, the two designed furniture as well as several low-cost houses. Vodder and Borg collaborated until the 1970s. In addition to exhibitions in his homecountry, Vodder also had several exhibitions in Stockholm, Brussels, London, Zurich and New York. Arne Vodder was very successful abroad, and especially in the 50s and 60s you could find his furniture both at Jimmy Carter in the White House, at Pope Paul VI in Rome, at President Anwar Sadat in Cairo, the UN in Geneva and in offices of international banks, airlines as well as in embassies and hotels worldwide. Vodder worked with several respected brands throughout his career and with the furniture company Sibast they did particularly well on the American market.
Sibast Furniture was founded in 1908 by Helge Sibast, and especially in the 50s and 60s they crafted some of the finest furniture in Danish design history.
