Gerard Sala was trained at the Massana School, the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona and the School of mural painting of San Cugat del Vallés. Since 1979 he has been a professor in the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona and is currently professor emeritus. He has had almost fifty solo exhibitions and has participated in more than a hundred group exhibitions, both in Catalonia and in Madrid, Seville, Bilbao, Ibiza, Zaragoza, Mallorca, and abroad, Germany, Sweden, United States, Israel, Uruguay, Chile, Italy. Sala has devoted himself mainly to painting, although he has also cultivated other artistic fields, such as engraving, lithography, sculpture (La puerta del Mar, Badalona), mural painting, posters (Fiestas de la Mercé de Barcelona, 1995), scenography (Nascita e Apoteosi di Horo, chamber opera by Miquel Roger), stamp design (for the Sèrie Pre-Olímpica), and poetry. His works are kept in the MACBA in Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Seville, the Zabaleta Museum, the Juan March Foundation, the Lluís Companys Foundation and other public and private collections.
