According to the words of the expert Mr. Alberto Velasco "This is an unpublished work that represents an important contribution to the catalog of paintings by Vicente Macip, the former Master of Cabanyes, one of the introducers of the Renaissance language in Valencian lands. The work, of great effectiveness thanks to the perspectival treatment, the richness of the details and the partially classicist design of the architectures, connects perfectly with the known of the Valencian master and places us before the result of a significant union of the Flemish tradition with the Italianizing novelties that at the beginning of the 16th century were taking root in the Hispanic kingdoms.the protagonists of the episode appear represented in the foreground, with Mary and Joseph kneeling adoring the Child. Another of the protagonists of the episode is God the Father, who is depicted bust-length in the upper area surrounded by scalloped clouds of notable atmospheric charge. The image of the Almighty emphasizes the transcendent nature of an episode that takes place in the human world, the birth and advent of his Son. As for the three shepherds, one of them has entered the space where Jesus is and has also prostrated himself on his knees. He is dressed as such and covers his head with a turban, while holding a lamb in his hands. The other two shepherds appear somewhat separated from the action, on the outside, sheltered behind a parapet. One of the most significant aspects is the hybridization that occurs between the square columns decorated with candelieri motifs and the ribbed vaults that top them, which tells us about this transitional language and how the novelties were adapted to the existing tradition. Iconographically, one of the most striking aspects, which could even be considered a rarity, is the presence of St. John in the foreground receiving a remarkable prominence by placing him in the central axis of the composition".
Vicente Macip Comes, Renaissance painter also known as "Vicente Joanes" and son of the painter Joan de Joanes, also known as Juan de Juanes. Apparently, the only documented work of the master is the altarpiece of the parish church of Bocairente, which his father contracted in 1578 and could not finish because he died a year later, being, therefore, his son the one who took care of finishing it but still maintaining the collaboration with his father, which makes it difficult for experts to see the son's own hand.
