Origin, progress and present state of all literature is the most relevant work of the writer Juan Andrés. It is the first work that deals with universal history and a study on comparative literature. Thus, for the first time, it unites literature and science in the same volume. At first it was published in Italian, although it was quickly translated into Spanish by his brother Carlos Andrés and printed in the house of the prestigious Antonio Sancha.
Juan Andrés y Morell was a Spanish Jesuit priest, Christian humanist and literary critic of the Age of Enlightenment. He is one of the most important authors of the time, along with Lorenzo Hervás, Antonio Eximeno, Francisco Javier Clavijero or Celestino Mutis, of the Spanish Universalist School of the 18th century.
