León Carbonero y Sol (Seville, 1853- Madrid 1894) journalist, lawyer and writer, was an academician of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and secret waiter of cloak and sword of Pope Leon XIII and knight commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
Since the foundation of the Inquisition, the institution was interested in the control of all that written word that could be susceptible of inquiring in a heretical message that did not promulgate the values of Christianity. For this reason, since 1551, the Inquisition drew up a list of books that were forbidden to Catholics. This practice lasted until 1872, when the last list was published.
