Attributed to Auguste Jean.

Auction Lot 35315179
Attributed to AUGUSTE JEAN (1830-1890).
Enameled and gilded glass.
Presents reintegrations and some picket.
Measurements: 33 x 16 x 16 cm.
Auguste Jean He was one of the key figures of the renaissance of the French earthenware in the mid-nineteenth century, along with Joseph Devers, Charles-Jean Avisseau, Georges Pull, Eugène Rousseau and Théodore Deck. While his ceramics were fully inscribed in the eclecticism of the 19th century, his glassware was in a style prior to Art Nouveau, often bold and surprising in both form and decoration. He was the son of Antoine Théodore Jean (1797-1864), an upholsterer and painter in the basse-lisse workshop of the Gobelins Manufacture. At a very young age, Auguste Jean began working as a potter and ceramic painter in the Parisian workshop of the Italian Joseph (Giuseppe) Devers (1823-1882), with whom he trained. Auguste Jean had been researching and experimenting with stained glass techniques since the 1870s: in 1877, he filed a patent for a metallized glass. This stained glass production was a relatively brief interlude in his career, lasting only from 1879 to 1883, which contrasts with the large number of stained glass works that have come down to us.
