Autograph book by Miguel de Cervantes.

Auction Lot 35275901
Autograph book by Miguel de Cervantes. Bound in cardboard. Limited and numbered edition with certificate. 0190/1616
Measurements: 40 cm.
A unique facsimile edition has brought together all the autographs of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, distributed in different institutions, namely: Archivo General de Simancas, Archivo Histórico Nacional, Archivo Municipal de Carmona, Biblioteca Nacional de España and the Rosenbach Museum Library in Philadelphia.
Cervantes liked to write letters. This seems to be attested to by Antonio de Guevara, when he replied in a letter dated 20 October 1588: "I have received all your letters from your worship, and I have not replied to them because you have not offered me someone to write to...". It is a pity, therefore, that today only fragments of that extensive epistolary production are preserved. In addition to the faithful facsimile reproduction of all the holographic documents, a separate volume contains for the first time an exhaustive palaeographic, orthographic and graphological study of Cervantes' handwriting, with publication of the most famous forgeries by eminent specialists.

Estimated Value : 1,000 - 1,500 €
