Christoph Christian Sturm was a German preacher and writer, known above all for his Reflections on the works of God in nature. He studied at the universities of Jena and Halle. In 1762 he was appointed master of pedagogy in Halle, and in 1765 he became rector of the school in Sorau, which at that time belonged to Brandenburg. In 1767 he returned to Halle as fourth pastor of the Market Church, and in the same year was appointed third pastor. He left Halle in 1769, to become second pastor of the church of the Holy Spirit (Heilige-Geist-Kirche) in Magdeburg, where he spent the happiest part of his professional life, and where he wrote most of his devotional works. Finally, in 1778, he was appointed senior pastor of St. Peter's Church in Hamburg.
