DESCRIPTION

MAX LE VERRIER (France, 1891-1973).
"Car mascot", c. 1925.
Patinated metal on veined marble base.
Measurements: 11 x 5 x 5 cm; 2.5 x 8 x 8 x 8 cm (base).
Max le Verrier was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Genoa. He then returned to Paris, where he opened his workshop. His first successful sculpture was Pelican. He received a gold medal at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels of 1925, which marked the height of Art Deco. He opened his foundry, where he worked with sculptors such as Pierre Le Faguays, Marcel Bouraine.... He gained a reputation for the quality of his metal works, then began to make more personal creations, flexible and athletic female figures. He received a medal of honor at the International of Paris 1937.
