Hand-woven rug produced in Afghanistan to explore the limits of drawing by renewing ancient craft techniques.
Andrea Santamarina has a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and from L'Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna (Italy). During 2004-2006 she joined the Design Department of FABRICA, the Communication Research Centre of Benetton (Italy), working closely with Aldo Cibic. She exchanged the smell of turpentine and brushes for the mouse and cursor in Illustrator and succumbed to the world of design.
Attracted by conceptual and narrative design, she worked for designers such as Martino Gamper or Jaime Hayon in London, completing her training by participating in various international workshops led by renowned architects, artists, art directors, industrial, graphic and interactive designers such as Lucy Orta, Andrea D'ODorico, El Último Grito, Golan Levin or Carlos Ferrater, among others. He has received grants from the Ministry of Culture, the Fundación Bilbao Arte and the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró.
He presented his first solo exhibition at the exhibition space La Llotgeta, sponsored by CAM in Valencia (Spain, 2007). Since then he has exhibited in Milan (Italy), Brisbane (Australia), Istanbul (Turkey), Paris (France), London (United Kingdom), Barcelona, San Sebastian, Palma de Mallorca, Bilbao and Madrid, in centres such as the George Pompidou Centre, the BilbaoArte Foundation, MATADERO (Design Centre) and the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art. His work is represented by the Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan and Mint in London.
He has currently given classes and lectures at international institutions such as The Royal College of Arts (London), Basque Culinary Center (San Sebastián), Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Rome) and UNAM (Mexico City).
