Copper with cloisonné enamel.
It has very slight flaws and chipping.
Measurements: 21 cm (diameter).
Copper plate with blue enamels and sepia "in grisaille" highlighted in gold, which see their repercussion in the wing of the plate, decorated with fantastic beings and ornamental elements of baroque inspiration. A costumbrista scene with woodcutters floods the background of the plate. A male portrait in the purest Roman style adorns the back.
Limoges enamel has a long tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, in particular to the last painting of the 12th century. It will be the most important enamel workshop in France, and owes its success especially to its production of enamel-decorated objects, in addition to the usual enameled plates. Its medieval pieces had their own characteristics such as a very superficial background dragging or a very fine partitioning for details, as well as an innovative chromatism that included new tones such as light blue-gray or white.
