Royal is a historic brand of Rioja and Bodegas Franco-Españolas, with over 100 years of history. It is one of the best-selling Rioja wines sold by the winery outside Spain".
According to the winery itself, "Bodegas Franco-Españolas was born in 1890 as the union between France and Spain at a high point in Rioja, when the French came to the region trying to replace their vineyards devastated by the phylloxera disease. It was the origin of the "fine wines of Rioja".
