Giò Pomodoro conceived his "Guscio n. 1" vase for D'Apres Alessi Collection as a practical and usable object in which the gravity of the calibrated lead guaranteed its stability. The exterior finish of the steel is shiny and reflective, bringing elegance and distinction to the piece.
Giò Pomodoro is considered one of the most important avant-garde sculptors on the international scene in the 20th century. As early as 1955 he collaborated with artists of the stature of Piero Dorazio, Gastone Novelli, Giulio Turcato, Parmeggiani Tancredi, Achille Perilli and the Argentine Lucio Fontana. He participated in the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel. Among his most famous works include large monumental works in stone and bronze. He received the Gold Medal for outstanding culture and art of Rome in 1997. Today his creations can be found in public and private collections around the world, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, the Nelson Rockefeller Collection in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Musée d'Ixelles in Brussels, the former Veranneman Foundation in Belgium and the Kunst und Museumverein in Wuppertal, among many others.
