The six chairs in tender respond to the taste of the successful post-war designer Dirk Van Sliedrecht for bamboo and natural materials. The high backrest, which accommodates a succession of curves, lends an avant-garde air to the structure, as does the spiral seat.

Dirk Van Sliedrecht began his career as a furniture maker, then continued as an interior designer, teacher and director of the Academy of Art and Industry (AKI) in Enschede (1949-1955). His rootedness in furniture making led him to create exquisite pieces in which the quality of craftsmanship stood out to a great extent. His language was defined by making the most of the material, with a special predilection for rattan, and creating clear and honest constructions, with a clear distinction between the seat and the structure. His designs perfectly reflect his admiration for the designer Kaare Klint. He worked at Jonkers. He had many talented pupils, among them designer Mart van Schijndel and interior architect Evelyne Merkx.
