Andrés Ferrer de Valdecebro, also known by his anagram Sanedrio Rifer de Brocaldino was a Dominican writer and Spanish ornithologist of the Baroque period. His works deal mainly with animals and the moral virtues associated with them. He traveled to New Spain and taught theology at the Royal College of San Luis de Francia in Puebla de los Angeles. He excelled as a preacher and catechist and in 1675 he returned to Madrid, where he held the position of professor of Moral Theology at St. Thomas College. He was royal preacher, confessor of the infants and qualifier of the Holy Office. His work Govierno general, moral, y político (1696), more than an ornithological treatise, is a kind of moral bestiary that includes not only birds, but also mythological creatures, including the unicorn; it is inspired by emblematic literature.
