Nicolas Camille Flammarion was an astronomer and prolific author of more than fifty titles, including popular science works on astronomy, several notable early science fiction novels, and works on psychical research and related subjects. He also published the journal L'Astronomie beginning in 1882. He maintained a private observatory in Juvisy-sur-Orge (France).
