Juan Pérez de Moya was a Spanish mathematician and writer, graduated from the University of Salamanca. He was chaplain and in 1590 he was named canon of the cathedral of Granada. He was an effective popularizer of mathematics: his Diálogos de aritmética práctica y especulativa of 1562 was reprinted thirty times and praised by Simon Stevin. His studies inspired the work of other scientists, including the astronomer Jerónimo Cortés.
