The Frenchman Pierre le Lorrain (1649-1721), known as Abbé de Vallemont, was a doctor of theology and an avid reader and observer of the practices of gardeners (especially in Versailles) and the cultivators of his environment. In his notebooks he collected possible answers to all the questions that arose in daily practice. Among his several works, a work of 1705, which was soon translated into Spanish, stands out.
