The Castilian bachelor Alfonso de la Torre composed this treatise around 1440, at the request of the prior of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Juan de Beamonte. The treatise consists of two parts: the first part deals with the liberal arts, Metaphysics and Nature; the second part deals with moral philosophy and the virtues and passions. Twenty-two engravings accompany each of the topics discussed.
