Self-taught artist, José Loygorri began his artistic career painting Castilian types and characters. Later he went to Paris, where he dedicated himself to portraying the frivolous scenes of the French capital, as we see in this pair of watercolors. He presented an exhibition in Madrid in 1916 and participated in the National Exhibition of 1920. He excelled in etching and watercolor, and collaborated profusely in "Blanco y Negro", "La esfera" and "ABC", signing with his surname. With his pseudonym "Eros" he signed his illustrations for "green genre" publications. He also illustrated novels, such as "La vieja canción", by Rafael López de Haro (1928). As for his oil paintings, his portrait of the Minister of Education César Silió y Cortés stands out, painted between 1919 and 1921, and which is currently kept in the portrait gallery of the Ministry of Education, Social Policy and Sport.
