Carmen González Domínguez is a Spanish watercolourist and painter. She has been interested in drawing since she was a child. In 1958 she began to study at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios, where she perfected her drawing and began modelling. In the 1960s she attended painting classes at the studio of the painter Julio Moisés Fernández de Villasante (1888-1986) and at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, where she painted nudes from life. He also began to work in the Chamartín and Sevilla Films film studios as assistant decorator under the direction of the Russian-French decorator Georges Wakhévitch (1907-1984), and also met the artistic director Gil Parrondo (1921-2016), with whom he worked on the sets of films such as Rey de Reyes and El Cid.
In 1965 he travelled to Oxford, where he held his first exhibition, and shortly afterwards he moved to Paris to continue painting, exhibiting and selling his work, especially to American dealers who came to his studio in rue des Trois Frères in Montmartre. There she met the painter Philippe Monteagudo (1936-2016), whom she married in 1967 and had four children, among them the painter Eduardo Monteagudo (1971). In 1970 the couple settled in Fuentealbilla (Albacete), where the painter was born, and founded the house-studio of the two artists. He worked from 2015 to 2018 in Paris. Although she will also work in her studios in Albacete, Madrid, Marbella and Cartaya, on the Costa de la Luz.
Carmen Berro's work is characterised by her watercolours of groups or figures of adolescent children in a dreamy, sometimes melancholic attitude, resulting in large stains of bright colours on a drawing with a subtle stroke. On the other hand, in his oil paintings he likes the use of impasto and vigorous brushstrokes, although without abandoning the lyrical atmosphere that envelops the scenes in his works, regardless of the technique. His scenes of customs, landscapes and seascapes, as well as floral still lifes, stand out.
