Carving belonging to the late baroque. Sculpture representing the archangel San Miguel in round bulk, wearing Roman attire and headdress with helmet. The cloths flutter in the wind giving dynamism to the energetic angelic gesture. Under his feet agonizes a demon, characterized with a human face and torso, but animalized and with horns. This is a carving endowed with expressiveness.

The Archangel Michael is an archangel and chief of the armies of God according to Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions. Michael is in charge of thwarting Lucifer or Satan, one of the fallen angels (Revelation 12:7). Therefore, in art he is depicted as an angel in the armor of a Roman general, threatening a demon or dragon with a spear or sword. He is also often depicted weighing the souls in the scales, for according to tradition, he would take part in the Last Judgment.
