Gregory IX (Anagni, ca. 1170 -Rome, August 22, 1241), was the 178th pope of the Catholic Church from 1227 to 1241. He published a collection of papal decrees, Decretals (1234), with resolutions on matters of discipline.
The Pontifical Decretals are the letters of the popes, written between the fourth and fifteenth centuries, by which the popes, imitating the style of the imperial chancellery, communicated their decisions concerning mainly disciplinary matters. This is part of the history of canon law.
